Research Shows Benefits of Chiropractic for Allergies, Asthma + Immune Challenges

Why do my eyes burn? Why is my throat so scratchy? And, why in the world does it feel like I go through a box of Kleenex every hour? With the amount of pollen in the air today, many people are struggling with allergies. What if this could be different?

A recent published research article showcases the benefits of chiropractic care for alleviating issues with allergies and other immune issues in a 5-year-old girl. The little girl had a traumatic birth- born five weeks premature and with birth interventions. As a baby, the little girl experienced frequent ear infections, recurrent respiratory infections, constipation and congestion. Her parents took her to a pediatric specialist for allergies and asthma. The specialist diagnosed her as immuno-deficient and prescribed a variety of medications, including frequent rounds of antibiotics.

Most people who suffer from allergies are very familiar with this route of care. They have tried daily medications and nasal sprays, but once they add chiropractic care into their life, they notice incredible long-term changes.

While chiropractic does not treat allergies or the immune challenges, it does re-establish normal neurological function in the body, which benefits the immune system (and every other system of the body). This crucial relationship between the nervous system and the immune system is why chiropractic care helps people live healthier lives and improve a variety of problems, including allergies and immune challenges.

“Numerous case studies and some clinical studies are revealing that there is a relationship between abnormalities in the spine, the nervous system and the various problems related to allergies and autoimmune disorders” -Dr. Matthew McCoy

Allergies, chronic infections and immune issues often arise early during neurological development. This is why it is very important to understand every patients’ health history, including birth. In the case of this little girl, she began seeing a chiropractor that examined her and found evidence of vertebral subluxation and neurological stress in the form of abnormal posture, spasm of spinal muscles, discomfort in the neck and back, and abnormal spinal curvatures.

Following the recommended course of chiropractic care, the child’s recurrent ear and respiratory infections became less severe. Not only were the dosages of medications all reduced, but mom also reported that her child missed fewer days of school, slept better, and behaved better at home and school.

If you or your child is suffering from immune-related issues such as allergies, asthma, or ear infections, chiropractic care may be an effective option to improve your family’s health.
